Catacombs Within

Here's the Basilica of San Francisco. A stunning church in the heart of Lima. It's only after I left that I learned it is estimated that 25,000 bodies were laid to rest in the catacombs beneath the church. Surviving numerous earthquakes, the catacombs served as a burial place until 1808, when the city cemetery was finally opened. The catacombs were forgotten until 1943 when they were rediscovered.
