Spanish Moss
Charleston is known for it's historic Plantations and one of the most well known, is Magnolia. Built as a rice plantation in 1676, it was opened to visitors in 1870. The peaceful lakes in front and throughout the plantation are covered with algae that turn an iridescent green in the afternoon sun. The bald cypress trees with hanging moss are said to be over 100 years old.
