View from the Past
This is the Odeon of Herodes Atticus that was built in 161 A.D. It's located on the southwest slope of the Acropolis and overlooks the city. It was used as a venue for music concerts with a capacity of 5,000. In 267 A.D. it was destroyed and left in ruins. Fortunately, in the 1950's it was restored and is the main venue for the "Athens Festival," which runs from May through October each year. Such artists as Frank Sinatra, Luciano Pavarotti, Andrea Bocelli, Sting and Elton John have performed here.
